To Use for Stamp Collecting

Some of the Learn the World™ kit components are designed as aids to collecting and displaying the original stamps featured in World PEAS. These include a high-quality, full-color print stamp catalogue; a CD stamp album with printable pages, a packet of 1,000 stamp hinges, and a pair of stamp tongs.

Album page entries list each stamp alphabetically by country, and include an interpretive paragraph describing the relevance of each stamp to the issuing country, plus a full-size grayscale stamp illustration, over which collectors may attach stamps using the stamp hinges provided.

As with most worldwide stamp albums, the chances of filling every space with a real stamp are remote, due to the cost and availability of certain stamps.

In classroom settings, where collecting the original stamps featured in the Learn the World™ kits may be impractical, learners can still “collect” the stamps featured in World PEAS digitally, using the World PEAS printed album pages and their own Internet research skills. For example, a popular classroom activity called a scavenger hunt (or a Webquest) is a type of game in which individuals or teams practice their research skills by trying to find a list of specific items (in this case, postage stamp images) on the World Wide Web. The goal is to be the first team (a) to complete the list, or (b) to achieve the highest score within a pre-determined time limit.
