Who We Are

Bridging the worlds of philately and international education, World PEAS was created in order to mobilize world postage stamps as a vehicle for teaching and learning global awareness.

Legal Stuff

Our legal structure is that of a self-sustaining, hybrid social enterprise:

Our parent company is the World PEAS Foundation—a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) entity. World PEAS, LLC is a subsidiary that generates revenues to help sustain our mission and the Pod Pals program;

A global network of strategic alliances and links helps us leverage our mission throughout the world in ways that we could not do alone.

Our products are protected by U.S. Utility Patent 6,425,581, issued on July 30, 2002; Canadian patent 2,427,067 issued March 14, 2006; and international patents pending. Patents cover both print and electronic formats.

“World PEAS”, “Learn the World” Kits and “Learn the world through stamps!” are reserved with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The copyrights for our stamp albums, catalogues and maps are registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.

The Meaning of “World PEAS”

World PEAS is an acronym derived from World Philately as Educational Aid to Society. (Also see Why Postage Stamps section.)

In English, “peas” are the round, green seeds that grow inside the pods of a leguminous climbing vine (Pisum sativum.)

The word "peas" is also intended as a play on the word “peace.” The World PEAS logo is that of a stylized white dove—the universal symbol of peace—with a pea pod in its beak, spilling peas—or the seeds of peace—all over the Earth.

To further extend the “peas” metaphor, we have chosen green poster putty that is kneaded into little “peas” to attach the stamp pictures to the maps at designated locations.
